A rail network extending from the American landscape into a city

The mission

Reorient American infrastructure.

Standard / 001United States

America built the 20th century around the car. Standard Railroad exists to build the next one around rail.

That means two things, and they only work together. Rail transit: fast trains between cities and real transit within them. Dense housing: walkable neighborhoods around every station, at a scale that moves the national shortage.

Transit without density has no riders. Density without transit has no streets left. Every country that builds well builds both at once. America has spent seventy years building neither.

The engineering is known. What's missing is execution, and execution is the company.

The build sequence

What gets built,
in order.

  1. 01

    Make rail cheap to build

Standardized designs, factory-built components, integrated delivery. Prefab slab track instead of bespoke ballasted construction. The cost curve bends before the map changes.

  2. 02

    Connect the cities

Fast intercity trunks where the demand already exists, and regional transit that makes the car optional inside metro areas.

  3. 03

    Build the places rail serves

Dense, walkable housing on the land around every station. The ridership funds the rail. The rail creates the land value. The loop closes.

Standard Railroad

Build both.
